Most customers buy battery electrolyte will have a doubt, whether the purchase of soft pack battery electrolyte or cylindrical battery electrolyte.
Soft Pack Battery
The soft-pack battery is because of the use of superimposed manufacturing methods, so the pursuit of a more slim volume, the same capacity density under the weight is also light. Similarly, soft-pack batteries can also be customized according to application requirements, as small as the size of our mobile phone batteries, and as large as used in new energy vehicles. Soft-pack batteries have always been the first choice for mobile devices in the industry, but in automotive applications, they are also valued by automotive brands because of their volumetric controllability, especially for plug-in hybrid vehicles, which take into account the layout and weight of the vehicle. At that time, the volume advantage of soft-pack batteries is more obvious. At present, GM's Buick VELITE5/VELITE5, Cadillac CT6 plug-in, XT5 hybrid models, and Nissan's Sylphy pure electric all use soft-pack batteries.
cylindrical battery
All three shapes of batteries will eventually become cylindrical, square and soft pack batteries through cylindrical winding, square winding and square stacking. However, at present, only cylindrical batteries are consistent in manufacturing standards. For example, the cylindrical batteries we know are divided into 14650, 18650, 21700 and other models. Many people think that this is a battery type, but it only represents the size standard of cylindrical batteries. Take the 18650 type as an example, which is currently a mature cylindrical battery standard, and the 21700 type is through continuous technological progress, it is possible to replace the 18650 type into the preferred cylindrical battery product for new energy vehicles.
Each of the two types of battery designs has a place in the market in the way of "changing the soup without changing the medicine". From the perspective of design, there is no absolute good or bad. However, for mature cylindrical batteries, because they have fixed global standards, the whole process will be more rigorous from manufacturing to application. Battery companies build batteries according to standards, while car companies also design and apply according to standards, with strong consistency. China has tried to use the European VDA standard as a template in square battery technology, but there are not many companies cited. Car companies that have chosen to use square batteries are gradually replacing cylindrical batteries to ensure product safety standards. Consistency.
